#HelloCongress

It’s time for students across America to say “#HelloCongress, We are students who are fighting for our lives. We support common sense gun violence prevention measures and we demand action.”

In partnership with the Newtown Foundation, Newtown Action Alliance and numerous partners who are sponsoring the 2018 Nationwide Vigils & Events to #EndGunViolence, the Jr. Newtown Action Alliance (Jr NAA) is encouraging students to make appointments to meet their Senators and Congressional Representatives face to face in their districts across the nation beginning December 1, 2018 and into the new year.

The Newtown students from the Jr NAA have been traveling to Washington D.C. to meet with their congressional representatives and other elected leaders since the Sandy Hook shooting tragedy that took the lives of 20 children and six educators. The Jr NAA students will be meeting with Congress on their trip to D.C. for the 6th Annual National Vigil for All Victims of Gun Violence on December 5-6th.

After 17 students and educators were taken at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, millions of students across the nation have been galvanized to join the fight to #EndGunViolence. Over the last eight months, the students have marched, walked out, died in, held town halls, registered to vote and got out the vote. After the midterm elections, it’s time for them to hold their elected representatives accountable, attempt to change the hearts and mind of those who take NRA money, and demand action on common sense gun violence prevention policies.

Starting December, we encourage students - as individuals or as a group - to call their Senators and congressional representatives to schedule an appointment in their district to discuss the 10 gun violence prevention policies outlined by March for Our Lives https://marchforourlives.com/policy/

The 2018 National Vigil to #EndGunViolence partners are supporting their initiative and we are encouraging other student organizations to support and partner with them on the #HelloCongress initiative.
