A Coalition of Gun Violence Prevention Groups Endorse Hillary Clinton for President and Tim Kaine for the Vice President of the United States of America

Sandy Hook, CT- Newtown Action Alliance, States United to Prevent Gun Violence Action Fund, Art=Ammo Artists Against Gun Violence, CeaseFire Pennsylvania, Children’s Firearm Safety Alliance, Colorado Ceasefire Legislative Action, The Connecticut Effect, The ENOUGH Campaign, Greenwich Council Against Gun Violence, GunControlToday, New Castle Promise, New Yorkers Against Gun Violence, Northwest Corner Committee for Gun Violence Prevention, Pride Fund to End Gun Violence, Rabbis Against Gun Violence, Reston-Herndon Alliance To End Gun Violence and Stop Handgun Violence Foundation proudly endorse Hillary Clinton for President and Tim Kaine for Vice President of the United States of America.

From the very outset of her campaign, Secretary Clinton has elevated the conversation on gun violence prevention to the national level. Again at the final presidential debate, she reaffirmed her support for the Second Amendment and reasonable regulations to keep Americans safe from gun violence. In stark contrast, Donald Trump has embraced the corporate gun lobby to a degree never seen in presidential elections.

The 2016 Election is one of the most consequential for the gun violence prevention movement. For four long years since the Sandy Hook School shooting, Congress has failed to take any action to strengthen the nation’s lax gun laws. Since that tragic day, Congressional inaction has contributed to 400,000 Americans being killed or injured by guns and increasing incidents of mass shootings that have devastated more and more communities across the nation.

Our next President will be tasked with leading the 115th Congress to pass common sense measures to end gun violence and appoint Supreme Court justices who will balance gun safety with Second Amendment rights.

After years of presidential candidates running away from the issue, Secretary Clinton and Governor Kaine have made gun violence prevention a cornerstone of their campaign by pledging to:

  • Repeal the gun industry’s unique immunity protection
  • Revoke the licenses of bad-actor gun dealers
  • Keep guns out of the hands of domestic abusers, other violent criminals, and the severely mentally ill
  • Support legislation to prohibit all domestic abusers from buying and possessing guns
  • Make straw purchasing a federal crime
  • Keep military-style weapons off our streets

In stark contrast, Donald Trump has adopted the corporate gun lobby’s plan to put guns everywhere for everyone, opposing common-sense gun safety reforms supported by a majority of Americans, including background checks for all firearms purchases, banning weapons of war and keeping guns from suspected terrorists.

It’s no surprise that Mr. Trump’s gun policies are reckless and dangerous. He is endorsed by the National Rifle Association, which has spent an unprecedented $21 million on his campaign. One of his campaign advisors, Alex Jones, believes the Sandy Hook massacre was “a giant hoax” and “no one died in 2012 in Sandy Hook”. At a rally in Vermont, Trump said he would “get rid of gun-free zones in schools…and on military bases…My first day, it gets signed.” Mr. Trump’s running mate, Mike Pence, governs a state where more people are killed with guns than car accidents. In Indiana, a person is killed by a gun every 12 hours. It is ranked 10th in the nation for highest crime gun exports.

Secretary Clinton and Governor Kaine have stood by the survivors and families impacted by gun violence and have made gun violence prevention a priority. As Americans who value the sanctity of life, we must do all we can to prevent gun deaths and injuries. To achieve this goal, voters must send Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine to the White House. They will go toe-to-toe with the corporate gun lobby and work with Republicans, Democrats and Independents to fight for common sense gun violence prevention measures to end the scourge of gun violence in our nation.

This endorsement is made independently and not authorized by any candidate or candidate’s committee.
