After the midterms, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has affirmed that common sense gun control will be a priority for the Democrat-controlled House of Representatives of the 116th Congress. She has been a steady leader pushing for gun violence prevention measures.

The Newtown Action Alliance is proud to endorse Matt Lesser for Connecticut Senate District 9. Matt Lesser was elected to represent District 100 in Connecticut’s House of Representatives at age 25 in 2008. His record on gun violence prevention has been strong.

We send our love, support and prayers to the families, first responders and community members who have been impacted by the heartbreaking deadly shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, this morning. 

William Tong is the strongest candidate to serve as the next Attorney General for Connecticut. His leadership is needed to establish Connecticut’s firewall against the dangerous policies that are being pushed by the National Rifle Association (NRA), Donald Trump and members of Congress who take money from the NRA.

The following statement was released by Po Murray, Chairwoman of Newtown Action Alliance after the vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court of the United States of America.

We are families and survivors who have been directly impacted by gun violence from cities and towns across this nation. Some of us have been shattered by our loved ones being taken by senseless gun violence and some of us live our daily lives with physical and/or mental scars from gun violence.

We thank Judge Lasnik for issuing this important order. As he noted, these guns will result in irreparable harm in our streets, schools, places of business, and our homes. There is no need for anyone around the globe to produce an untraceable - and sometimes undetectable - firearm, circumventing background checks and other important state and federal gun regulations. 

Our hearts break for the families, survivors, first responders and the members of the Jacksonville community who have been impacted by the mass shooting incident yesterday. We send our love and support.
